Even if you can look it up on the blockchain, I still think potential earnings should be invisible here on Steemit until payout. Why? Because it's a gift, and our parents should've taught us not to peek until it was time to open it.

That's what I'll be telling the tax man, if they ever ask about my earnings!
Even if they don't see it that way, I know of no other way to define it myself.
Keep it as Steem, spend it as Steem, and surely there is a way to out fox the tax code.
Tax avoidance is legal.

Indeed.
No its absolute cecessity to know the earnings of everyone in decentralized community. I even think that is really important in centralized because you lower the chance of yourself AND the others of getting ripped off. At least that’s what I think, I of course, don’t know the truth.
I didn't say hide the final earnings. I said hide potential earnings - as in, what the amount says it COULD be before payout occurs. Once it pays out, it would be visible.
And how would you then decide whether the payment is insufficient, or the opposite, for the contribution of the post?
Since when is ANY amount of free money "insufficient"? Key piece of advice when posting on this platform - Remove all expectations.
You misunderstand. I’m talking about the perception of the curator. He, be it you, or me, valuates every content read, and decide whether it deserves a vote still, or not. It doesn’t have anything to do with expectations.
100% agree man. I'm following now :)
I’ve read your discussion and we are positively on the same boat. Of course we are grateful for what we get. That is again completely different topic. I’ve checked your profile too and the blog looks rather interesting. I’ll give it a try too ;).
a better way would be to make the earning transparent [ as they are and should be on the blockchian wtf, man, decentralized and "no peeking"? are you kidding me? there's no decentralization with no peeking, think about it!!] but the authors anonymous somehow. but then you hae a host of other problems..
My approach is to simply address being thankful for what you get. You won't earn anything like this anywhere else for the kinds of posts that make money here. You're free to have your opinion about my opinion all you like.
This was about no peek. Of course gratitude for being on steemit is |MORE than appropriate, man!! Come on :)
