Build a Lego Land Rover Defender with Me - Part 5 - almost there

in #lego3 years ago

Well this thing now looks like it could be on a hoist in a mechanic's workshop, just having some work done on the front end.

Which is to say we are 3/4 of the way through and I'm quite pleased where this is heading.

If you haven't read the previous posts on this epic 2500 piece, 867 step build they can be found here:

Starting to look like a vehicle

So I started todays build at the start of 'bag 3' or step 400, and as you can see this was a build that was basically going to start putting so of the green and white outside panels on the vehicle. So basically after spending many many hours building the very complicated innards of the Defender it's time to cover all that up.

And yeah today building (which took me just over 2 hours) was significantly easier that the cogs and axles of the mechanics, but it was by no means simple. There is still as lot in this, including a lockable rear tailgate

and time for a the B and C (that's a bit of car speak for you) the A pillar is the one at the windscreen which always gets in your way, and the B pillar is between the front and rear seats the C pillar is what is the blindspot over your shoulder, but we have digressed

And then there is a tiny bit of 'System' building, look at these run of the mill familiar looking pieces - shock horror

and they create a nice little sill - or shoulder line of the car (I've spent way to long in meetings with car people) above the wheel arches, which are huge single pieces by the way

Then the roof, which was the fastest build of the lot, and excitingly meant I had finished all the pieces of my first colour - white.

And the final part for today, the very cool front doors, I particularly like the hinging and door frames (I should mention that there will be no glass in any of the doors or windscreen as that is not a Technic thing.

And when you have finished the building for this section you end up with something like the picture shown at the start of the section in the instruction book

Just waiting for the final 200 odd steps which one imagines is the bonnet, front bumper, front wheel arches, the all important wheels and a random collection of stuff to go on the roof.

But that's for another day, frankly I'm a bit tired now

Sort:

That really is an impressive build. It's huge! I know it'd take me at least several days to complete, too.
