3 things I do every Friday for my finances.

Below are 3 things that I have done every single Friday for about 5 years now. Its habit now and it helps me keep my finances in check.

1 - Pay off my credit cards!

Every Friday morning the first thing I do it open my credit card apps and pay them off completely. I make sure they are zeroed out. I’m am so set on this goal that sometimes in preparation if money is low I’ll sell some silver earlier in the week to make sure I can pay them off completely.

I have a visa and discover credit card. I only use the discover for the 5% cash back categories each quarter.

2 - I move $25 into my new car fund and $75 into my emergency fund.

New car fund does not mean 2020 car fund. 💰💰. $25 a week doesn’t get you that. I am always saving for my next car. You never know when your 2002 Honda with 250k miles on it will break down.

3 - I plan out my next week of spending.

This is a very simple not detailed plan. I just walk through a quick plan on paper and decide how much money I’ll be tentatively spending. It gets my mind right for the next week.

Maybe you do similar. Maybe you think it’s stupid but it works for me. I hope you enjoy hearing how it works for me.

Sort:

Very disciplined! I only do some of these things once per month... we do the weekly budgets number limited, then try to challenge ourselves to spend less than the max each week.

Nice! Keep it up.

Good plan saving for the future. Too many people don't do that and are in real trouble when something happens. Long live your 2002 Honda.

Need that Honda to go another 50k miles.

Your car fund is something new ,generally people take EMI and interest hurt them afterwards.

This is awesome. I'm addicted to zeroing out my card (singular) -- ever since I started using YouNeedABudget.com aka YNAB it's changed my freaking life financially. I've been able to save over 14k in 2.5 months simply by tracking everything and making informed decisions because of that data.

I’ve heard about that program. The founders are from Utah so I saw it in my local news once. I need to check it out again.

Definitely do -- it was really a game-changer for me, I didn't actually think that their marketing language of "changing your life" was true haha!

I need to do better on my number 3 for sure. But even the little I do helps a ton. Thanks for stopping by.

I think just about most of us can do better at that one!
