Lower Numbers for Twitter Than Expected

The Q4 user numbers are not as high as they were expected to be for Twitter, though they are reportedly growing despite the increase in criticism for the platform over their actions to crackdown on various accounts.

CEO J. Dorsey recently stated that Twitter was bigger than any one topic or one account that might get removed from the platform.

There are thousands of different topics that people follow and engage over, it isn't only politics and news that is bringing them to Twitter.

Despite continuing to add new accounts, Twitter didn't meet Wall St's expectations for growth, even though they might still be slowly climbing in users.

They are expecting 2021 to be a good year for them though, with their revenue set to grow faster than expenses this year.

There are still many people that have dumped their Twitter accounts for good though, but Dorsey says most of Twitter's audience is outside of the United States. With the majority of the audience being outside the U.S. this indicates that it might not make that much of a difference in the long run. But eventually if they continue doing what they are doing then that is only going to push more content creators away to finding other spaces.
