If you signed up to be an Algorand Governor, the voting session for period 1 is now active. It is active from Nov 01 to Nov 15 but you don't want to wait till the end in case anything goes wrong.
Why vote? To be eligible for the rewards and also to secure the network and guide its direction. What is on the voting block this time around? A proposal to determine whether the rewards that accrue to inactive governors should be redirected to active governors instead. Additionally, the inactive governors' committed amount gets slashed by 8%. Ouch!
As it stands right now, the new proposal looks like it will be passed. I am in favor of the new mechanism but there are a couple of limited scenarios where the governor has passed away and their beneficiaries aren't aware of the Algorand wallet and by the time they find out, all the funds have been slashed.
It is a limited scenario but I am sure it has happened before.
