Hello!
When I saw the video of Charlie Lee saying he regrets creating Litecoin, I couldn’t help but feel a bit surprised, but also, I kind of understand what he means.
Creating something like Litecoin in the early days of crypto must have been exciting. It was one of the first forks of Bitcoin, with faster blocks and some technical changes. But in the end, even Charlie seems to realize now that Bitcoin was already perfect in what it was trying to be. I'tss sound money for the digital world.
Litecoin was born as “silver to Bitcoin’s gold.” For a while, it had its moment. Many people used it to test features before they went to Bitcoin, like SegWit or Lightning. But with time, Litecoin became just another altcoin, and its difference stopped being clear. Bitcoin kept growing stronger, more decentralized, more secure, and Litecoin stayed in its shadow.
When Charlie says he regrets creating it, maybe he sees now how it confused some people. Many thought there could be many “Bitcoins,” many versions of digital money. But Bitcoin’s design, network effect, and trustless nature make it one of a kind. Everything else, even Litecoin, looks small next to it.
I think Charlie’s words show something important: even the creator of one of the oldest altcoins admits that Bitcoin is the real thing. It’s rare to see this kind of honesty in crypto, where most projects just try to hype their tokens forever.
Litecoin still exists, yes. It’s still running, and some people use it. But the truth is that the world doesn’t need a “faster Bitcoin.” It needs the hardest, most secure, and most incorruptible money (HINT: is Bitcoin)
So maybe Charlie’s regret is not failure, but a kind of respect. He understands now that what Satoshi created didn’t need any improvement. It just needed time. And here we are, 15 years later, watching Bitcoin continue to prove every copy wrong.
I hope you have a great week!
