An advertising executive, Darren's character was depicted as devoted and supportive, often exasperated yet patient with Samantha's witchcraft and her eccentric family. York’s portrayal anchored the series’ comedy and heart, making Darren a relatable figure. His career included notable film and TV roles, but a severe back injury sustained during filming led to his departure from the show. He passed away from complications of empyema in 1992 at age 63.
