Alice Pierce initially portrayed the curious neighbor Gladys Kravitz, a well-meaning but intrusive character always suspicious of the supernatural happenings next door. Her comedic reactions added levity to the series. After her passing in 1966, Sandra Gould took over the role, further cementing Gladys's place as a comedic foil. Gould was also known for her work in film and music, passing away in 1999 at age 48 from ovarian cancer.
