Pekka Kana 2: Making of a Level (Timelapse)

VIDEO INTRODUCTION (yeah yeah, I know it's big, might as well use the 5000 characters properly)

Hello everyone! Before I introduce the video, I should introduce the game!
Pekka Kana 2 (or PK2) is a game from 2003 by an awesome developer Janne Kivilahti! This game was a classic example of a jump-and-run platformer, having awesome graphics and gameplay, (just google The House of the Dead 2 and compare them), catchy music, and an extremely cute and cuddly plot: Pekka is a rooster who guards a hen house full of chickens and chicks, but one day, an evil crow steals all the chickens! Now Pekka must try and rescue them back, with the help of the player!

But the thing that set apart PK2 from other platformers was its graphics and its ability to be heavily modified. Players can create their own levels and episodes(a set of levels), along with their own music, own tile-sets, and even their own sprites(which is a bit harder, but definitely possible). This encouraged players to make their own levels, surrounded by a plot, or even make complex, beautiful levels just for the sake of game play. This increased the popularity of PK2 and it hit its all-time high around 2007-2008.
But after that, the game hit a decline, due to the developer's inactivity. And now we're in 2017, but this game is still alive :D

Enough about the game. Now for the video.
Since 2015 or so, I've always wanted to make my own game. But sadly, I'm very lazy and also don't find enough time to make one. I don't even have the technical prowess and the programming language required to make one. I also can't draw or make music or make a gripping story. So, despite how much I wanted to make a game... I was stuck.

But PK2 was an excellent base for me to make my game around. The game play was good, the graphics excellent, and the music was also great! Also, I grew up with this game since when I was small, so that was the main driving factor

I still haven't figured out a name for the episode, but I've made one level by now, and I'll be sure to release this episode as soon as I finish the last level :D

Of course, this level is not finished yet, I still have to put in the sprites and add some finishing touches! But I'll be sure to work hard on it when I get the time!
