Reply to anti LGBT video

I watched this video by OTG Ministry: End of the World - The LGBT Lie - Amazing Testimony and wrote a comment in their discussion section. When finishing the comment, I figured that it might be a good steemit post as well. So here goes nothing!

As the comments was disabled, I thought it was a good idea to post it here and on the channels discussion section instead.

First of all, I'd like to point out that OTG didn't link to the studies they got their results from.

They bring up 4 results from some scientific studies which concludes with the following 4 points.

  1. Sexual orientation is not fixed.
  2. Gender identity is not fixed.
  3. Only a minority of children who experience gender atypical thoughts live to adulthood or adolesence having the same atypical thoughts.
  4. LGBT people has higher rate of mental health problems, substance abuse and intimate partner violence than the general public.

I will explore these 4 points from a pro LGBT point of view.

  1. Saying that sexual orientation is not fixed does not mean people can choose what sexual orientation they want to have. Which is what it seems like OTG are insinuating. This would depend on the scientific article OTG is referencing to.
  2. As #1, just because gender identity is not fixed does not mean LGBT people can choose gender identity they want to have. Which is what it seems like OTG are insinuating.
  3. If this is true, then it is a very good point OTG is making. We should not treat children as if they are the gender they say they identify as.
  4. I believe this. However, it seems like OTG believe that LGBT people experience these issues because they chose to be LGBT. However, you can not choose what sexual orientation you have or what gender identity you have, which is something OTG did not address in the video.

I encourage you steemians to leave a comment.

I think they [or you, I did not see the video you're referring to] are conflating concept of gender with sex, that's why their claims seem to be confusing.
Swap "gender" in the statement "Only a minority of children who experience gender atypical thoughts live to adulthood or adolesence having the same atypical thoughts." to "sex" and it makes hell of a lot more sense. Because... how can you have "gender" atypical thoughts if gender is only a concept and we are who we are, right?
there are 2 genders, though. Not to confuse my statment with "infinite genders!".
Cheers

The video is 10 mins long, but if you skip all the interview parts, its only about 2 mins. So the points I'm talking about is not very long.

Gender atypical thoughts is for example a boy insisting that he is a girl or a man who insist that he is a woman. Therefore I would say the term makes sense.

go lgbt. nice video.
