Setting the anarchist machine in motion

in #libertarian9 years ago (edited)

We’re all familiar with the bizarre chain of events whereby a population ruled by a government is outraged by a direct or indirect effect of that same government, and then hits the streets to effectively demand more governance. This seems to be a phenomenon that is apt to occur in any culture and geographic region.

In the US we’re seeing it with a growing war on terror at home and abroad, a stifling regulatory environment as a response to the derivatives/mortgage bubble of ‘07/’08, and a very disconcerting attack on free speech stemming from growing racial & socio-economic friction. It’s frustrating to be on the outside looking in - whiteknuckling the arm-rests of your chair as every media outlet spouts misinformation and government propaganda.

But I think we’re on the precipice of a growing period of turmoil that we can use to our advantage if we position correctly. Historically, the political class have been able to control the chess pieces very effectively through media monopoly. It’s wild to think that just 20 years ago there was very little means to easily educate yourself about the environment in which you lived outside of flipping on the television or reading the newspaper. The internet, and specifically these beautiful new uncensorable tools like Steemit sprouting up on the internet platform, can be a great method for changing minds through the correct framing of global and local events.
Every anarchist reading this has their ‘thing’ that incited them to back out of the rabbit hole, zero everything out, and start to evaluate their surroundings based on bare human action and human interaction. For me it was foreign policy. For some it may be the abuse of the welfare system. It doesn’t matter...one thing leads to another. And like a living Rube Goldberg machine, the brain skips from one aspect of our political climate to another, evaluating what the state is and isn’t doing right until the machine comes to a rest at a stateless - or near stateless - society. Someone just has to set the machine in motion, the rest will come.

So I urge everyone out there - the next time you’re in a political conversation...it’s not about winning the argument. It’s about setting the machine in motion. All you need to do is figure out what that first machination is - do you need to inflate a balloon? Push a domino? Maybe all you need to do is ask one question and the rest will follow. It can seem insurmountable at times, but it only takes one event to set the chain in motion.

Cheers all!
