So I commented that yes I have, I explained that when I lived in Thailand, because I have hairy arms and legs plus grow facial hair, which in my experience in Asia is uncommon (I spent 12 years in Thailand, Bali, Singapore, Hong Kong, Cambodia too) I was called Ling Noy, which means little monkey.
Is that not racism?.
His response was a rant and I am part of the problem.
I asked him what the problem was he perceived?.

The hotel cost less to live in, was miles bigger, more friendly, very pleasant and only 25 quid a night.

Sighs... Racism (discrimination) happens anywhere that someone is in a minority. It's human nature that we notice when someone stands out. If a white wants to experience it they only need to visit a country where they're going to stand out (or even certain areas in some countries). It's certainly a humbling experience and would make you realise why you might not want to treat anyone else that way. It's probably one of the reasons why those who travel are a lot more open minded and kinder to those around them.
