  1. The female insect lay lots of tiny eggs, sometimes on the underside of a leaf
  2. The eggs hatch into larvae. Caterpillars, grubs and maggots are all forms of insects larvae.
  3. When the larvae has grown enough it changes into a pupa (or chrysalis), inside a hard cased called a cocoon. The insect's body dissolves and reforms into a new shapes.
  4. Once the change has occurred, the cocoon splits open and the adult insect come out. Butterflies, moths, beetles, flies, ants and bees all go through metamorphosis.
