“Nowhere has communication been more transformed than in the rise of social networks like Facebook and LinkedIn.” (Langton, Robbins, & Judge, 2016). Given the vast audience we are able to reach, it is important to consider our communication techniques since social networks are a projection of our personal brand.

Some communication strategies that can be used on our professional networks are:

  • Setting goals of your target audience (to whom does your message or brand apply)

  • Bring Value to your audience (offer fresh perspectives. Use personal references and experiences to create posts that are relatable)

  • Use language that is plain and simple, avoid semantics

  • Filter all messages on forums before posting (avoid spelling & grammatical errors)

Separating our personal and professional profiles on social media is a matter of personal preference. Therefore, take time to carefully plan your post and create a lasting impression.
