A lot have been written about LinkedIn 3 Degrees of Freedom, but so often I am ask what the degree ° number that appears near the profile name means.
In the above image let call the guy, Jerry . The Lady with Red hair will be called Anne, and finally the lady with brown hair Alice.
In the LinkedIn world of data, if Jerry, Anne and Alice are not connected, they will not be able to see or find each other. Now, assume Jerry acepts an invite from Anne: They inmediately become 1° Degree Connection.
Now, suppose Anne connects with Alice as first degree. Then inmediately Jerry's Network will detect Alice as 2° degree connection.
Now assume you connect with Alice. Then from Jerry's Network perspective you will appear as 3° degree connection.
To implement the 3 LinkedIn degrees of freedom you need at least 4 people. As you dump into linkedIn 600 Million People then magic happens: Your Network becomes a 3 dimensional 3 layer sphere of Data, with 3 Radius.
Think of concentric spheres like this one :
In my view I don't see LinkedIn as a Job Portal nor Social Network. I see it as an abstract multidimensional sphere where I can run searches using LinkedIn Powerful AI Search Engine.
My Network contains 30,000 1° degree connections, creating a second concentric sphere of 15,000,000 Profiles. Yes, every 1° degree connection of mine contain at least 1,500 connections, on average. And those 15,000,000 generates another 30,000,000 additional 3° degree connections, for a total amazing Search Space of more than 45 Million Profiles.
That is what a Mega Power Node means. My Network behaves as a Black Hole, attracting hundreds of new connections every month. And also allowing me and my Network go into deep search.
