The wind.
It laid upon her skin like a weight; like countless crumbled stones of different sizes around her skin, pressing down on her. It did not want her to run away; did not want her to remember the pain of that day. It wanted her to forget. She had promised herself after that day that she would never once stop him; that she would never let him get the upper hand again.
First, she had promised herself she would stay far far away from him. Second, she had promised herself that she would never go back to him. And third, she had promised herself that she would never let him know she was there.
Whenever he came after her, she would leave as fast as she could, like a frightened rabbit away from a butcher's knife.
She had left the moment the morning sun had shown, and she had never looked back; had never seen his red eyes.
She had tried to ignore the humiliation, the shame and the pain of what he had done to her.
But the wind didn't want her to be like this; she too wanted her to feel free. She felt free whenever she was running; running away from him; the wind didn't want her to be like this she wanted her to break free from the shackles that bound her wrists. It wanted her to let go of all her fears and snubs.
Yet, she would always stop to sniff the air now and then. Sniffing for him. Sniffing for her freedom. Sniffing for freedom from those shackles that bound her wrists. She would stop every now and then to look for red eyes; looking for escape; looking for freedom. And she would wait for the wind to take her away like the wind always had…
…And she would let herself go.
She had left the moment the morning sun had shown, and she had never looked back; had never seen his red eyes. Yet, the air was somehow still heavy. Heavy on her skin; heavy on her mind. Heavy on her skin like different sized stones of different sizes on her skin, pressing down on her. It had not left her ever since she had left.
There was more to this than just running away from him, she realized. It was the opposite. She felt differently when she was in the wind; in the trees; in the rain; in the rainbows. She felt beautiful in the rain and in the rainbows. She felt beautiful in the wind and in the trees. Was she just running away then? Was she just running away from the heavy air that she felt when she was in the wind; in the trees; in the rain; in the rainbows?
It wasn't like it had been two years she had done this. She had hardly slept; hardly eaten; hardly rested; hardly rested at all. Every now and then she would try to forget the world around her; but there was always that 'when you're with him' feeling that would creep up on her.
Maybe running away was rewarding after all; but she just couldn't bring herself to do that.
But then, she sniffed the air now and then.
She sniffed now and then.
'And what now?'
'Now, now, now…'
Her mind went blank again.
'Don't fret my love, I will take care of you. I will make everything right for you. Just you wait'
'Just you wait'
'Just you wait'
'Just you wait'
'Just you wait'
'Just you wait'
'Just you wait'
'Just you wait'
'Just you wait'
'Just you wait'
'Just you wait'
'Just you wait'
'Just you wait'
'Just you wait'
…And her mind went blank again.
