Zewail City of Science and Technology was established in the Sheikh Zayed area in the 6th of October City in Cairo on 1 January 2000 as mentioned previously. In 2014, the Egyptian President, Adly Mansour, issued a decree granting 200 acres For the construction of a new headquarters for the city of Zewail, this area is located within the gardens of October in the city of the sixth of October
The President of the Republic and the members of the Supreme Advisory Council are scheduled to open the new site after its completion, and until then it will complete the construction of the new site of the scientific city. The city will operate from its current location in Sheikh Zayed and will retain the city's administrative headquarters in Garden City, Cairo.
