Opinion: Just another terrorist attack in London

in #london6 years ago

Unfortunately, another terrorist attack in London took place overnight. There is a high probability that a similar attack will happen again.

Most tourists and locals of London will be familiar with the location. I walked up the exact pavement, adjacent to Westminster Palace, around a month ago when I was visiting. I took the picture below, at Victoria Tower Gardens, which is less than 500 meters from where the driver was stopped.

The driver, a 29-year-old U.K. national, drove a Ford Fiesta and hit three people before colliding with a bollard. thankfully, none of the victims were killed.

Are events like these what enabled the Brexit result? Or are they a reminder of intensifying Islamic radicalisation in Europe? President Trump was quick to tweet about the attack. Sadly, I don’t think it will be his last one regarding London.

The recent spate of attacks in the U.K., and western Europe, date back to May 22, 2013. Then, two British Muslims drove and hacked apart soldier Lee Rigby. Later, in January, 2015, twelve people were killed during the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris. That same year, coordinated attacks in November, 2015, left over a hundred and thirty people dead in the Bataclan associated attacks. By 2016, eighty-four people were run down in July in Nice in southern France. France, despite being a safe place to visit, has seen its reputation tarnish because of such incidents.

So long as citizens abide by the law, they should be free to live and practice their religion however they see fit. But when followers of a particular faith continue to perpetrate acts of violence, it is unsurprising that a growing majority of citizens are becoming sceptical of large scale immigration and multicultural policies.

Very well written. I remember the Lee Rigby incident, seems like so long ago now.

It's very sad to see the world being torn apart by religious extremism on all sides.

Looking forward to your next article!

Thank you for your comment, I appreciate the feedback. Tougher laws are needed.
