Magic: The Altering

in #magicthegathering4 years ago (edited)

Hello Hive Frendos!

This last year has been an interesting time for a lot of us. We've had to change many aspects of our lives.

I took this extended period of isolating to try new art projects. so I started altering magic cards.

'What is altering' you might ask. well the card game is kinda like splinterlands. you have cards, they have art. Altering is changing, adding to, or completely redoing the art on the card.

This was my first alter. I do the alters with acrylic paints and really fine brushes.
I had the opportunity to have some of my alters get put up for auction at a Gamers Helping Gamers Charity event, and Raise $210USD for the charity!

I am very happy with how my art has progressed during this experimentation into painting and altering. I've unfortunately had to stop for the last while. I had to move and currently in the middle of renovations. I hope to get back to it soon. but in the mean time I'll post the other cards I have done once I get better pictures on them.

Thanks for stopping by to me first post on Hive! I look forwards to being a part of this community

Congrats on your first post! 🎉🎉🎉

Thanks Julia!!! I am excited!

WoooooHooooo look at you! Nicely done.

I like your art. It's a very cool thing.

Thank you! there will be more of my current works soon, I am looking forward to getting some new pieces out too!

You can also remove artwork with a pink pearl eraser and start with a fresh canvas. Case in point:

But yeah, those are solid! I've tried doing some cards like yours and I never get nearly as nice of results. You've got some talent there, mister!

Thanks! You can just wipe Foils off with mild acetone and have a foil backed blank card.

I actually tried that once, but part of the problem with that method is that it's difficult to mask off parts of the card.

Hmmmm, good point. I'll do some tests

The problem I ran into is that I used cellophane or painter's tape to mask off parts of the card. The acetone would eat through the adhesive and bleed under the tape. Actually, the acetone melted the cellophane tape entirely.

But yeah, if you can find something that works for masking clean edges, let me know.
