People get put off by politics.
This is true; but as @aggroed points out, if you are interested in this...or in any other specialty that most people aren't interested in...keep writing on it.
Talk about what's meaningful to you even if no one is listening
It can be obvious if you are just throwing out posts willy-nilly, trying to get upvotes. There is no passion in your writing when you do this...
BUT
Things kept creeping along
Stick it out. Expand your areas of interest. Network by reading other folks' posts and commenting!
Do as @aggroed did and learn from those who have success. You can help others new to the platform (yes even as a new user yourself), you learn new things and write about them with interest, and you can still be
uncompromising on talking about some things that still no one cares about, but it's important to me.
