A Sunny Day Outside

Prepare the garden

With this nice weather, and a partner who is free, there are always other things that have to happen suddenly. The dogs want to go outside, my partner suddenly wanted to prepare the garden for spring / summer. Making a herb corner, work had to be done on the steps that the dogs use to get into the pool… and many more things like that.

Go out NOW

And well, I can't blame my partner. Because it is of course also the case, he does not have every day off. It is only a few days a year that he has such a long weekend. This year it has not happened that much that he was free AND that the weather was also nice. The temperature above 17 degrees and continuous sun. So yes, I had no choice but to say… "You're right, we have to go out NOW and start with the things that need to be arranged."

Herbs corner

We now had the herbs all over the garden, and it grew well. That really wasn't the problem. Certainly not, but it is not convenient at all! Because herbs, you want to use when you are cooking. Quickly go outside, pick a handful of fresh herbs and go back inside because that's where your pans are. At least normally. I don't have an outdoor kitchen, and to be honest, I wouldn't want to either. Because no matter how nice life in the countryside is, we do have more insects here. And you don't want to find it in your pans or on your plate.

Much more easy

So we decided to move all of our herbs, put them together… and put that herb corner in a place in the garden that you can easily reach, that you can quickly run to from the kitchen. Of course that doesn't sound complicated, and it is not… certainly not now that all herbs are slowly starting to grow again. So after an hour of work we had arranged that and our 2 large containers with herbs are also at an ideal height where you can easily reach them. No more getting down on your knees every day to pick the herbs. None of that… we have made legs under the bins, so from now on we are working on delicious fresh herbs, which we can easily access. That was another job that we could cross off.

Prepare the plateau for the dogs

Then it was time to sand down the plateau for the dogs, and put a good coat of oil on it. The oil protects the wood against the weather, but also against the water. As soon as the oil has been properly absorbed, another layer of concrete will come over it, because it is much less slippery for the wet dog's paws… and by the time that concrete layer has hardened, the pool can hopefully go outside again. Now it is just a little too early. Not because the dogs would find it cold. No, they don't care, and happily jump in as soon as they can. But because a swimming pool can still freeze to pieces, no matter how nice it may be during the day ... we still have to deal with night frost temperatures. And you don't want something that you enjoy so much to break, do you? No, preferably not… so wait a little longer before the water fun starts again. But in any case make sure that all preparations are done again so that the water ballet can start as soon as the weather permits.

A Tidy Garden

After that there were several small jobs that we had to do, sweeping 220m2 of yard, removing weeds from between the tiles and that kind of 'annoying jobs'… but in the end we were able to look around in a 'tidy garden'.

LANA

During all this work, the most difficult aspect was not to trip over a ball that is continuously placed neatly in front of my feet by one of the dogs. Lana! My god, she is tireless. She's super active… and her focus is so incredibly on that ball! And off the ball, she's focused on me. Where I go or stand, where I run… I always have to be careful not to trip over her ball. So walking is something for me these days where my foot regularly shoots out to kick the ball away so that Lana does not run in front of my feet for 2 seconds.

Besides that, she is a sweetheart… and now that we are finally back in after a wonderful day outside, now you have no problems with Lana at all. She's sleeping and until she goes out for the last time tonight you won't hear her anymore. The focus is gone, the activity is over, and Lana is literally under sail. Totally knock out ...

MYLA

And how different it is to look at Myla. My oldest girl. A little gray mouse now… but so very sweet. Always satisfied. Don't walk in front of me. Does not demand attention all day… but is just nice to be around and quietly plays with her ball in her own way. Occasionally challenges Skipper to run around together. Tries to take the ball from Lana… because yes, that's the game they play of course!

Also a sport. But above all, she is a wonderfully satisfied dog who goes her own way, and if you have time, likes to be with you and do things together.

SKIPPER

Finally, I looked at Skipper. The youngest dog in the pack. Not even a year and a half here, but it has already conquered a big place in my heart. With his naughty tricks. He is of course still young. He always has to learn enough, but he already knows very well how to garden. He knows very well how to get the ladies to play with him… and he knows very well how to get me to play with him as quickly as possible. He can also do his own thing, does not need constant attention like Lana and is a lot more relaxed. He still has to learn the very calmness of Myla, but that is also not possible when you are only 2 years old. He is starting to lose his puppy looks and is slowly growing into adulthood ...

They are GREAT

A delicious trio. They complement each other perfectly in so many areas. They complete each other, and in addition, all three are real individuals, and they all have their own characters. Wonderful to be surrounded by them all day long… and wonderful to enjoy the surrounding space together.

Tomorrow again I hope!

I hope tomorrow will be such a wonderful day again… then you will not hear me complain! The only thing is, that unfortunately means that I am online less and therefore have less time to really engage… that is the only disadvantage.

Looks like you are a dog person and have a number of dogs.
I love dogs too but they are high maintenance for me and i was bitten by when i was kid so i am little afraid of them too.
Do you have a big garden and grow different vegetables ?
I hope you get good weather for gardening as here it's raining most of the time so gardening is not easy because of lack of Sun.

I'm totally a dog person, and yes we have 3 dogs. All shepherd dogs. And they are high maintenance but so worth it!

We do have a garden, not really big, but sure not small and we do try to grow different veggies and herbs. The weather here is good the last week, but not sure for how much longer.

Thanks for your reply and I do hope you get your share of sun too!

So, are you a dog or a cat person?

Yeah, that's something to think about ... not completely sure 😂

The dogs definitely look like their day outside. Thanks for sharing on ListNerds.
