Shoe Shine Man Mastered His "Elevator Speech"

You have heard many times that your "elevator speech" will help you clarify what you do, and prompt people to hear more about your products and services. My guess is that coaches and seminar directors have told you how to fashion your short description of who you are and what you do.

Yet instead of giving you an expanded how-to-do-it article, I'm going to share the best example I have heard.

WHAT THE SHOE SHINE MAN SAYS
Lawrence Hardnett shines shoes at his stand in the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce Building in Duluth, Georgia, in the Atlanta area. He has been shining shoes professionally since he was fourteen years old. Here he is:

Lawrence says, with a wry smile:

"I'm a man of the cloth. And if your sole is in good shape, I can take care of the rest of you."

SIMPLE FORMULA
Clearly, Lawrence uses a simple formula. His elevator speech includes:

--Creativity
--Play on Words
--Subtle, tasteful humor
--Catchy
--Memorable
--Descriptive of his services

WELCOME YOUR RESPONSES
No, you are not using the same work tools Lawrence uses daily:

So his wording won't work for you. However, his approach will.

I'll welcome your feedback. Tell me about your elevator speech--and whether you have plans for improving the way you identify your offerings in 30 seconds.
