Hello fellow Steemers,
Just wanted to get a blog going on the pros and cons of advertising on steemit. Wouldn't it make sense to include a column on the right side of the Steemit website for advertisers to include advertising and other information, similar to Reddit?
The whole idea after all is to monetize the content on the Steemit site. Seems to me that advertising is a big part of that. Also when done discreetly could provide helpful information to the Steemit community. I think Reddit over does it. But, if there were one discrete add to the right every time folks clicked on content, this could provide an additional revenue source and add additional value to content.
What to do with the ad revenue? The add revenue could be distributed proportional to SP holders. Another novel idea being used by ICN is to use the add revenue to burn a portion of the the tokens, in this case, STEEM, thereby reducing the inflation rate, and making STEEM more valuable. Also perhaps an ability to benefit from a revenue stream should be incorporated as a feature of the new SMT tokens.
Just think this is a really important part of monetizing content. Great content should attract advertisers, and our great Steemiters should benefit when posting their valuable content.

Great point by yourself in regards to the ads on Steemit itself. I too, am of the notion that promoted posts on Steemit hold immense value but is currently done in a terrible way.
The biggest giants in the internet sphere have all made their billions through proper monetization through advertising platforms. What I would suggest is that anyone may promotoe their post, choose which tags and topics they'd like them to be featured in, and like google, have the promoted post come out based amongst the organic posts with a little sign which indicates it's a promoted post.
The cost can be based on impressions, and the price could go lower given that the promoted post gets high % of click-throughs.
I am in the works of forming a concise post on this very matter.

I go to "promoted" to upvote stuff. It voids the Steem all together, thus increasing the value of any Steem us Steemians hodl. I think if the venue catches on promoting a post will work very well. SMT and things like BAT might change the paradigm of how ads work, in which case we can buy our Lambos.
