You probably don't know his name but Johnathan Hickman is one of the most influential science-fiction writers of our generation and his chosen medium, western-style comics is experiencing a revival separate from the behemoth that is the MCU. Hickman's influence can be felt through a lot of the modern media we consume today ( you can thank Hickman for inspiring Rick and Morty's council of Rick's and the ongoing multiversal hijinks that are taking place now in the show's intriguing overarching evil-Morty plotline.

### What happens when the downtrodden and oppressed earn a place at the table?
Recently, Hickman has been revitalizing the X-Men comic book titles with his exceptional talents, an experienced writer with a reputation for hitting the reader right in the feels. He often does this by turning a comic book trope or two on its head and asking an intriguing question. This time it's "We know that comic book characters rarely stay dead but what if all of the main characters couldn't die, instead, being born and reborn again and again?" also "Mutants are always under attack and marginalized what if somehow they became the strongest nation on Earth and gained an unprecedented level of agency and autonomy?" Turning certain tropes and series dynamics on their head has breathed new life into a franchise well known for being hit or miss over the decades and if you like the idea of having something more complex and nuanced from the characters you grew up with this might be the title for you.
### Does power corrupt and how does it happen?

Hickman explores these questions beautifully as Mutant kind consolidates on the living island of Krakoa with an unprecedented level of unity, economic power and leadership and spoiler getting what they have always wanted, a place to call their own.....does not solve all of their problems.
