What is it? It is a musical and visual representation of √2 which is an irrational number. Meaning that it cannot be expressed as a fraction of two integers or equivalently, there is no repeating pattern present in its decimals.
How was it made? Every line edge is generated by the decimals of √2. More specifically, there is a recursive relation between the first 1 to n decimals and the nth edge you see in the video. Every line edge is converted to a musical interval. This conversion is based on the method discussed in this post but it is slightly different since in that post I considered tones and here I consider intervals. Since √2 is an irrational number there is no repeating pattern. But you can see that the lines move more in the vertical direction than in the horizontal direction which says something about the properties of the decimals of √2.
I will write a more detailed post at a later time which explains the functions used to generate this video.
Programs used: Mathematica, openshot editor and inkscape.
