RE: Memoir Monday #25 (8/26-9/1) - Have you ever lost a friendship that meant a lot to you?

in #memoirmonday9 months ago

I have a couple of friends that I have drifted apart from like that. My friend from 7th grade is still one of my best friends today, but the friends from high school I don't talk to as much. I think a lot of it had to do with living at home and commuting to college. I think living in a dorm allows you to create some of those deep bonds and when you don't experience that it is harder. That's my theory anyway. The high school friend isn't really active on social media. I have some other ones who just kind of drifted away and I guess they were kind of seasonal friends. Kind of like plants, some are just there for a season, but a few are perennial.

I never experienced dorm life but imagine it's the perfect environment to build close friendships. Friendships do, oftentimes, rely on being in close proximity!

Yes, I can attest to that. When I first moved in with my wife it was a city or two away from my friends. Really only like 20 minutes, but you would have thought it was four hours at times!

Absolutely! Distance matters. It takes much more work the further you are away.

It definitely does!
