Rishabh Pant got selected for the first time as a wicketkeeper-batsman alongside Dinesh Karthik who is expected to take up wicketkeeping duties in place of injured Wriddhiman Saha.
Bumrah has also been named in the squad but he will be available for the selection from second test match. It was noteworthy that Bumrah missed out both t20 and ODI series aginst England due to a thumb injury. Meanwhile decision for availability of Bhuvneshwar Kumar for first test match will be taken later.
Mohammed Shami who missed out one off test match against Afghanistan has been named in the squad. Karun Nair retains his place in the test squad while Rohit Sharma has not been selected.
Kuldeep Yadav has been added to the squad alongside duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

That's a very strong squad! Bhuvneshwar Kumar really struggled yesterday, he will be a big miss for India. Do you think that Kuldeep Yadav will play alongside Ashwin?
I guess it will all depend on the pitch conditions. During this time of the year in England, pitches tend to be drier as we had seen during the ODI series. Kuldeep, given the way he performed in both the series may be in the playing eleven straightaway in the first test match. But that being said,if England provide a green seaming wicket Kuldeep's chances of playing nullifies. Ashwin is a sure starter because of his recent county stint and the fact that he can contribute with the bat as well.
