Microsoft AI will help your PC predict the best time to update Windows 10

Windows 10 is Microsoft’s most complete operating system for years. That doesn’t stop the software giant from continuously forcing through updates whenever it sees fit. Whether they be big regular updates, like the Windows 10 update we’re expecting in the fall, or smaller patches that come haphazardly, they’re all annoying if they arrive at the wrong time. When Windows 10 is updating, your computer works a lot slower than it usually does.

Microsoft is working on this issue. It recently told us that the smaller patches will install much quicker. Today the news is that Microsoft plans to use machine learning so that your PC will be able to predict when is and isn’t a good time to update your PC. If Windows only updates when you’re not busy doing something else, then Windows updates will be much less annoying.

The latest and greatest version of Microsoft's operating system.

According to Microsoft, Windows will be trying to predict stuff like when you’ve popped out of the room to do something like grab a coffee. This, is in addition to the current system, which looks at whether you’re using the device before Windows restarts.

This is a small change from Microsoft, but it is a step in the right direction. Considering Windows 10 was initially offered for free, it still takes quite a bit of flak. Most of this comes from people complaining about intrusive updates ruining whatever it was they were doing at the time. If Microsoft can nail this predictive algorithm not only will it be able to predict whether you’re going the toilet or not, it’ll also put to bed one of the biggest headaches it’s had since launching Windows 10.
