It's a Stretch But Far From a Long Shot

in #mindset4 years ago

This is going to be a short one, I think.

A few moths ago, I was in a car accident. It was a single vehicle accident that was a result of a perfect storm. Heavy downpour, a CVT transmission and sheer luck. Don't worry, this isn't the beginning of a big sob story. I'm just setting the stage. Somehow, going into a flat spin on the highway at 110 km/hr (about 65 mph) and walking away without being run over by a semi truck, with no broken bones or lacerations took away my desire to complain about most things. Sure, my car was obliterated and I'm still dealing with the whiplash, but I still count myself as lucky to be able to walk and talk like a real boy.

Since the accident, I've been going to physio. I started out going three times a week and now I'm at two. My physio therapist asked what I was hoping to accomplish when I first walked in. I told him that I was determined to not only get back to where I was before the accident, but get stronger so that the injury wouldn't return. He said that he thought it was possible, but it was going to take some work.

So far, things are slowly getting better. Each day, I learn something about managing the pain and about my accountability to myself. Although I might not have done everything I could, every single day- I'm getting better at taking action more often and with greater intention and follow through.

The fact that my physio therapist said it was possible told me that my goal is in reach, as long as I'm willing to stretch. Both figuratively and literally, if I can force myself to commit to the work that needs to be done, I know that it's not a long shot. It's just a stretch.

Those are my thoughts for the night. I hope that makes a bit of sense for an off the cuff bit of free writing about a random happening.

Much love and hope you are well.
