Another new graphic card for my budget DDR2 mining rig! Thanks to @FeliXXX

in #mining7 years ago (edited)

Hello dear Steemians

Quick update if you read my article 6 days ago Finally i cashed out the money that @Felixxx loaned me to buy an R9 280x (If not take your time and read it if you want), it seems i was unlucky to find a used R9 280x however i managed to buy an R9 280.

I bought a used Gigabyte R9 280 3GB Windforce (OC Version) wich cost me 110$ that worth the penny and does a great job plus i was looking for a 3 fans version, the funny thing is that the card is in an excellent condition (almost brand new).

It's a little bit bigger than my 7950 and much bigger than 7850 lol.

Here's how it looks alone in the mobo

Things i noticed about the graphic card

  • It's a little bit faster than 7950 in Equihash but the same in Cryptonight and Ethhash
  • It's not loud at all even in 100% fans speed
  • It's good in overclocking and doesn't heat up that much

Now it's time for the benchmarks

  • Equihash
There isn't much different between the 7950 and R9 280 in Equihash! it hashes a little bit more

  • Ethhash

Im mining Ethereum using Claymore Dual Miner v8.1 on solo mode

  • CryptoNight
Almost the same as the 7950 in monero mining!

Overall it's a good budget graphic card, it does the job well especially in Equihash maybe ill try overclocking it later and see what it can do, or i'll undervolt it to save some energy, and the fans are quiet for a 3 fans card!

Thanks for reading, i hope you like my article, feel free to ask me about anything and i will answer you
Have a good day.

Looks exactly like my card.

Try my underclock and undervolt settings, it will bring down the consumption a lot.
Mine went from 290 hashes down to 270, but at the same time it brought down the Amps and heat.
At normal clocking this card will pull too many Watts and produce too much heat.

Oh nice! sure for now im just testing it but i will try your settings later and tell you if it works or not, plus im going to buy a Watt meter soon i really need it to know exactly how much my rig is consuming power.

Wattmeter is a good investment.

Wattmeter is a miner life saver tool.

Looked a lot like my old r9 290 as well.

This is so awesome, gives me many ideas of community activity with having more and more members mining. :D

Nice ! Hope you are happy with it.

Im especially the fans dont make much noise :D
just need to undervolt it soon!

Congrats!:)

Thank you so much :)
