How to prevent websites from using your computer resources to convert virtual currencies

in #mining8 years ago

A few days ago we published a topic about a new technology for virtual currency mining that allows webmasters to profit from their sites without displaying ads to visitors by using their computer processors to mine these virtual currencies. The first site to test this new service is the famous BitTorrent site.

Although the system has been published for only 24 hours as a test, many people have denounced the move and have justified it. As we all know, mining is a cumbersome process that uses a lot of computer resources and can cause hardware crashes. These are among the disadvantages of this method of generating profits.

Fortunately, there is a solution if you do not want your computer to be used as a mining platform. Swiss programmer Rafael Keramidas has found a way to prevent this new service from working on your computer by adding a simple browser called "No Coin", which can be downloaded from this link

The system works effectively as an ad blocker, but only for this new tool, which prevents the service from capturing the resources of the computer and thus prevent mining.

JSECoin (https://jsecoin.com/platform/?register=1&utm_source=referral&utm_campaign=aff3348&utm_content=) is mined exclusively through a web browser and is designed exactly for the reason mentioned above. To monetize websites without (or in addition to) showing ads. I've played around with it a little and it really doesn't use much in the way of resources. Less than 100% of one core and it seems to be somewhat intermittent. But the script used is also proactive about letting visitors opt out. A banner is displayed at the bottom of the web page allowing visitors to choose not to participate so no browser extension is necessary to block this one. I would expect more of these in the future...

is it profitable?

Sites that win

Since it doesn't cost the implementer anything, yes. How profitable depends on the traffic of your website and the long term success of the coin. I've only earned a couple dollars so far but I've just been playing around with it and running a website is just a hobby for me. You can also mine with your own computer through a web browser but I haven't really done too much of that yet. The other aspect of this of course is speculation. Will JSECoin take off in the future? If so a few dollars now could be substantially larger then. Check out the whitepaper (https://jsecoin.com/whitepaper.pdf) and judge for yourself.

Personally, if it becomes profitable enough, I think this is a much less obtrusive option than ads for monetizing a website.

on the mining tab page it says:

Temporarily Offline
The self-mining platform has been placed offline
The user base has been doubling every few days and our engineers need time to catch up
Apologies for the inconvenience

2 dollars is yuuuuuuge for me, it is like 40 here, how did you manage? electricity is cheap where I live and the dollar exchange is huge so any grab is a go for me :P..
If we had a Trust certificate somehow somebody could send me an antminer and I would mine 24/7 here and return initial costs as soon as machinery possible. I mean crypto has so many untapped opportunities that it bothers me sometime..genesis mining is doing that by alternative energy to cut cost so I would be doing just the same for even lesser energy costs... I also have an empty industrial hangar crying for business...well my father has it lol...and for industrial scale there are incentives so electricity is even cheaper...All I need is a couple of thousands of dollars to potentially be a millionaire in less than a year...it is driving me crazy that I lost time before and am losing more now ...so much untapped potentials ooh well..for the better hopefully ... any scraps, leftovers am in...am the scavenger of crypto lol.. XD...hook me up! :P..peace

The mining page says that but if you actually place the javascript code on your own web page, you will mine in the background when you visit that web page. It's just their standalone mining page that isn't functioning at the moment.

To get the javascript you need, if you have signed up just click on "Publishers" in the left hand column from the main page. It will ask you for the domain name you are going to put it on and that's pretty much it. The Javascript is just a couple of lines.
