RE: Qurator's Mischievous Mondays | Beyond Sight and Sound

Just thinking about the possibility of suddenly losing both sight and hearing brings on strong anxiety. Imagining a life where the two main ways of interacting with the world just vanish is terrifying. The adaptation would surely be a daily challenge and, in the beginning, likely quite overwhelming.

For someone who can see and hear, it’s very complex to even begin to understand what this new phase would be like. I believe I would have to completely reinvent myself, learn a new language, like tactile braille, and rely much more on touch to communicate and recognize my surroundings.

The simplest tasks, like eating, moving around the house, and even getting dressed, would reach a whole new level of complexity. Everything would need to be reorganized so that I could navigate using only touch, which would demand a huge amount of discipline.

It would be hard to stay calm in the face of such a radical change, and I would definitely depend on the support and patience of others. Therapy and mental health professionals would be essential to help me through this.

It’s a reality that shows just how much we rely on our senses, and how facing something like this would require courage and resilience beyond anything I can imagine.
