Learning Blender - Log 11 - Retaining information

in #modeling7 years ago

Intro

Today I set a challenge for myself. I wanted to see how much I remember and how much of the previous logs I could create in just 1 hour. This could display the level of information retention on parts I memorized intuitively since so far I only followed a tutorial series on YouTube.

Observation

Well... needless to say I was disappointed. For some reason I expected my level of understanding to be much higher than it actually was. Maybe I was expecting something similar to the previous blog post 10. I must say that modeling without referencing any outsider materials is hard.

I will try and work on the skills I learned on all the posts leading up to this one. I have to try and work more independently in the future and expand my own knowledge.

I am by no means considering this project to be a failure, it is just a checkpoint on my real knowledge.

I would have lied to myself and mainly you if I told everyone that the things I am posting here are all my work. Thanks, BlednerGuru for all the awesome tutorials.

What I managed to do

I created my own model with a picture as the template
I added a material and shaders to add shine and matte to the model
I created a plane and tried to texture it - I failed on the texture, settled on a color
I added lighting to suit the model

End

Next log will probably be the same old scene you are used to by now. This will teach me new techniques which I can apply later.

Thanks for all the support, even though this image is much less pleasing than the last ones.
