Why Is A Sports Stock Market Needed:
Since the beginning of sports people have longed to make financial gains on their knowledge of sports. But there hasn’t been an economically responsible way to do that until now. Prior to ASM, the only way to make money off sports competition was to have a bookie and place bets on the team that you thought would win. But what the betting industry does is they add spreads and vigs to the transaction which puts the individual at an extreme disadvantage. Then if your team doesn’t win and cover the spread, you lose all of your money.
Another reason a sports stock market is needed, is that sports betting does not add any positive social or economical value to society as a whole. The only one that benefits from sports betting is the bookie.
The goal of ASM is to make sports derivatives an investment asset class. That means, if ASM is successful, you will one day be able to invest in your sports teams just like you do a company on the NASDAQ or the New York Stock Exchange.
Why Sports Derivatives Are The Solution:
Sports derivatives solve all of the shortcomings of sports betting. For the individual, when they buy a derivative in a sports team, they will earn money when their team wins a competitive match in the form of a dividend (more on the dividend in a later article). But even if their team loses, they will still own the derivatives. The derivatives are held by the individual in perpetuity until the person sells the derivative.
For the sports industry, they will benefit in several ways. First and foremost, ASM will share with the teams and leagues part of the IPO income and part of the commissions placed on each trade. They will also be able to use their own team’s derivatives to hedge against corporate decisions where they don’t know the outcome of the transaction. (If you’re not familiar with hedging, just think of it as limiting your risk on an unknown outcome)
As you can see, ASM is on the forefront of a new sports economy that is destined to change the way people look at their finances and sports team. In future articles, I will be going into further detail on the makeup and structure of the ASM platform, the company structure, and how you can trade sports derivatives.
