Given the crazy times we live in I believe all people should hold some level of physical precious metals. 5% of my current assets are allocated in physical gold and silver.
We should also look at these as protection for ourselves, not necessarily an investment (the price could rise though!). Gold and silver know no borders - I cannot use my U.S. dollars in China for example, but the Chinese will gladly take my gold or silver bullion.
I want to get to 10% of total assets in precious metals. Now is a good opportunity as both gold and silver are around they're yearly lows in terms of fiat price.
