I had not thought about this idea and it seems like a great way to bring users to the platform from external sources. I imagine you can do this by using the claimed account function as well which costs Resource Credits instead of Steem which could improve the return on the transaction as well. Thanks for sharing!

Absolutely true. For those that have large stake and plenty of RC, the account creation is totally free. Some can argue that it is not free as it takes RC, but if you can't use the RC on anything else, then it is essentially free.
I wrote this for the audience that doesn't have enough RC to be creating many accounts. I assume that those with large stake would already know how to create discounted accounts.
Here is the interesting part, many people that can create the accounts for free are not doing it. It is too time consuming, and the amount of money earned vs the amount of time dedicated is just not worth it for them. For the folks that don't have much and are willing to go out there and spend the time, it could build some income for them.
For businesses and website owners, the cost of creating accounts is low enough to include accounts as an incentive. (i.e., you get something free when you buy our use our product)
