Do they not take 'chip & PIN'? Cash only seems rare now with some places being card only.
At least you got your money back in the end. I've not had that, but I've heard of people finding cash sitting on an ATM with nobody around. Dealing with the phone support is a PITA. It's so hard to get hold of a human.
