They say that you will become the average of the five people you spend the most time with. If you spend all of your time with unsuccessful people, they will drag you down with their energy and lack of ambition.
All too often people are afraid to end toxic or dead end relationships because they want to be nice. The sunk cost fallacy is a big part of this I believe.
If someone doesn't inspire you, help you to grow, or give you joy in your life then they are likely an energy vampire.
You're right, as a younger person I had some people who actually helped me a lot, they weren't the best when it comes to networking, but it we formed some decent relationship that changed our lives. .
There really isn't anything better than having people who makes you better. I think we should strive for that, at all cost. You're right about just letting people who are "unwilling", go. I've had people I just decided to let go, there's no need stressing who is unwilling
