More Indrija

I think my photographic journey started when I picked up a box Brownie at a jumble sale when I was in junior school. For a time I spent pretty much all of my paper round money on getting films developed into disappointing crappy photos. Why I didn't take the hint there and then is beyond me. But I am never one to learn from my mistakes.

And then I discovered music. Listening to it, going to gigs to watch it and playing it. Quite a hazy few years for some reason. But still there was a camera with me mostly an old instamatic, but then I progressed to an SLR.

It was an Olympus OM10 and I loved it. And as I was working full time I had loads of money to get lots of films developed into more crappy images. Slowly over time I improved - back then there wasn't YouTube to teach me, so it was a bit trial and error, mags and books.

After taking redundancy I opened my studio and started taking family portraits and somehow, I still really don't know how, I sort of got into model photography. Something I am really passionate about, but still not as good at it as I would like. And obviously not as good at it as I think I am given the general way I am ignored by a lot of my peers and models. But that means I have room to improve, and room to learn. So perhaps not too bad a thing to be ignored.

Your story is motivating.
It's always cool to hear from someone who started way back when there was no youtube.

The trials and errors you had, I think this is where true knowledge of the art comes from.
These days we don't even need to try so many times because we have youtube and mentors we can learn from

And obviously not as good at it as I think I am given the general way I am ignored by a lot of my peers and models. But that means I have room to improve, and room to learn.

I suspect we all have room for improvement, but you are certainly one of the better photographers I know.

(Admittedly I don't know many photographers, but out of that small group you are one of the better ones 😉)

Anyway, at least the fact that you are aware of the room for improvement means you are always striving to take better pictures. In my opinion that makes you better than the people who take some nice pictures of their cat and decide they are therefore good enough to do weddings.

All that matters is that you are happy with the images you take... speaking of which, these shots of Indrija are beautiful, I'm definitely missing working with a proper studio set-up.

Thank you Dan (and for the reblog). Just really not feeling it at the moment mate. Not one little bit. I could go off on a massive rant at this point, but I won't, it's pointless, even if it did make me feel better.

These weren't taken in a studio bud, although the lighting was set up in pretty much the same way. But, yeah I do miss studio work. You will have to go to Emrys's or Rich's (when he is set up).

I know how you feel pal. I had this a couple of moths ago (as you know), and even Rich went through this last week... we all have good days and bad days, and sometimes it seems like the bad happens more often.

Ranting is pointless, but it is cathartic at least. You know where to find me if you want to let off some steam, whether its a message on facebook or I can meet you at the WAVE for a coffee and a rant.

I agree, ranting is pointless, and I generally never feel any better for getting it off my chest. But sometimes I just feel as though I need to get it out there.

I just may take you up on that bud, not been to the Wave for a while.

I haven't been that first meet up after lockdown we di when it first re-opened

Give me a shout if you're passing through mate, my work shifts are all over the place but I have a reasonable amount of time of (I only work 3 days a week atm, plenty of time free)

Will do mate. Will give you a shout in the next week or two

Many thanks @brumest and the @qurator team. Your support is hugely appreciated

@buttonn thanks. I really love digital though. It's made photography so much more accessible to so many more people and what could be a chore in the darkroom is now a (relatively) easy process

Yeah...
Hahaha
Darkroom is a post processing photo editing software
Like Lightroom CC
