Azemmour Community Challenge--Medina Qidima

Here in Azemmour, we have our own way of dealing with the pandemic and the stress of lockdown. Just this week we learned we will be in confinement until August 8. But in our medina and town streets, you won't find rioting or looting. Instead, you find a community coming together with ideas and enthusiasm about making our neighborhood even more special than it already was.

Neighbor joined with neighbor to plan paint schemes, purchase materials, and work together in this massive undertaking. The medina has been alive with activity over the past few days, drawing painters from every corner of the city to leave their mark on our world. The transformation is breathtaking. Not only that, as I walked through these cobbled streets today with @michelios and @rhondak, we discovered people eager to talk about Azemmour's history and explore ways to share our beautiful home with people everywhere.

The following mural depicts a malhoun band, such as the ones that come from other Moroccan cities and even Algeria to play music on the square during Ramadan.

I hope you enjoy these photos, but more than that, I hope to personally greet you some day here in Azemmour, so that I can show you the vast beauty of this land and the character of our small city, illustrated so well by these street paintings and and gorgeous murals.

Until next time!
