Welcome to Humans of Star Trek, a daily Star Trek inspired motivation series.
These are the voyages of Starfleet personnel who came together to give us a future that humanity craves for and deserves. Together, let's boldly go where no one has gone before.
Spock is perhaps the most popular Star Trek character and has been part of global pop culture phenomenon for the better part of the last half a century. The iconic Vulcan has some of the most unforgettable lines in the history of Television.
This quote in particular about "change" is so accurate and true. We get used to our respective ways of life. We get used to some form of ideology - religious, political, economic. We get used to how people treat us and how we should treat them - social conformity. We get used to how things are and how things should be. We get so used to everything that we often forget that the only true constant is change.
This philosophy may or may not appeal to everyone but no one can deny the underlying argument that Spock makes here. Change well and truly is the essential process of all existence. As the great Carl Sagan would say - we are the custodians of life's meaning. If we don't welcome change we prevent not just human progress but we deny our own existence to find meaning.
