Acquiring Knowledge Through Imitation

in #motivational3 years ago (edited)

I have been privileged to stay with children and I discovered something unique about them in regards to acquisition of knowledge - they tend to copy or imitate what other people that are around them do. This, to a considerably fair extent, is one of the easiest and fastest ways by which knowledge is passed on from people to people. This also holds potency even for the adults. If you want to get a particular result that has been gotten by someone else, the easiest way to do that is to copy their pattern.

One of the major undoings of the adulthood is the belief that they should bear the full responsibilities of their existence and that includes the responsibility for their actions, to figure out their own ways and so on. This has made them to place less emphasis on learning from others on how to get the job done. Taking responsibility does not mean living as an island. You can make the journey a whole lot easier if you follow the steps of people that have trodden on the same path that you want to tread on.

The truth about learning by imitation is that anyone can be a guide to you without a recourse to their background, age, disposition and whatnot. You may occupy a high social position than them but the truth still remains that knowledge is not dependent on social status. It is amazing that the people that possess the knowledge that you require may not look like it.

I remember a few years back, I needed a particular tutorial on how to get something done. All efforts to get it done seemed unforthcoming until I discussed the issue with a younger cousin of mine. Amazingly, he had the solutions to it and in few minutes, what I had been struggling with was done. This is to let you know that there is a solution to a particular problem embedded in everyone and we should not overlook that.

When you see something in someone that you admire, nothing stops you from approaching the person for knowledge on that thing instead of trying to figure out everything by yourself. The truth is, what took others a pretty long time to learn can be imitated by others and learnt in much lesser time. The first prerequisite to learning is the acknowledgment of one's ignorance.

If someone does not know something and does not care to know it and does not even know that he is in ignorance, then his case is way beyond redemption. However, when someone accepts his ignorance, then his redemption is already closer than he thinks. The reason is: the knowledge of a problem is the first knowledge required to solving any problem.

Do not feel shy or feel down when you do not know something. Everyone has something extra to learn and they cannot learn everything that is needed to be learnt.

Peace on y'all

Yes, acknowledging that we do not know something when we really do not know it is a part of be honest. When we were young and in school, not knowing something meant punishment or bad grade. I wonder, if, because of this, some people tend to avoid it. There is also pride. To acknowledge one's weakness requires humility, courage and kindness is also helpful. I find the words "I'm little(little like a cute happy child) and I've got a lot to learn!" helpful when I start to think I know more than I actually do!

Nice comment. I particularly like when you said that we need humility in order to acknowledge one's weakness.
Thanks a lot buddy
