I'll see this soon. I loved the original when I was a kid. Not sure I've seen all the versions, but there's never the time. The new one got a glowing review in the Guardian. I have been meaning to check out the shorts and will watch those now

The shorts are VERY important. If you don't watch them, there is no real explanation of some major events that lead up to this movie.
I'll be sure to watch them then. There was something similar with The Matrix and some other movies. Not everyone will know about such shorts, but it's part of the experience these days
