Apocalypse Now is not an unfamiliar film to the average movie watcher. Director Francis Coppola was also not afraid to put symbolic meanings behind almost every scene. In what is perhaps the most iconic scene in film history, Captain Willard emerges as a new man from the river he had feared all along. Symbolically, he has overcome his inner struggle and in the process decided his goal - eliminating Colonel Kurtz - to complete.

I really find it inspiring how the entire crew could portray insanity in such a symbolic yet spiritual way; the deeper the soldiers go up the river, the deeper they venture into the madness of their minds. Apocalypse Now is one of my favorite films, in which my love for analyzing and searching for deeper meanings in the work of writers and directors began.
