Hey guys, i have not really seen any movie reviews on Steemit so I thought I give it a shot. I am a beginner in writing reviews so any feedback is welcome :) I hope you enjoy it and let me know if you would like to see more. Here we go:
Netflix is pumping out a lot of series and movies the last couple of years. Some are good and some are bad. Some time ago they came up with Spectral. A sci-fi action mystery movie. Is it worth to mention in another one of netflix’s great originals or is it soon to be forgotten?
The story
In Spectral, James Badge Dale plays a genius government engineer who is called to a war-torn Eastern European country when his advanced goggles spot something they shouldn’t: an unexplainable spectral being with a human form. Locals call them the “Ghosts of War,” suggesting they’re the tortured souls of the dead, and they may be right. But the beings are unstoppable and it’s up to him and a team of soldiers to stop them.
There’s no denying that’s a pretty cool premise. A war story with a science fiction twist, Spectral does its best to deliver on that promise. And in my opinion they succeed in this. The story is not very deep but it does give you a good premise in which the movie takes place.
The pacing
The pace of the film is perfect and there's never a reason to lose interest, especially as our cast delve deeper into the mystery of what's going on and how to deal with it. The tension themes were similar to Darkest Hour & FF:SW insofar as you never quite knew where the threats were going to come from at any given time, despite the countermeasures in place. Some people have compared the story with those two titles pre-release, and after watching you can see how it could be inspired by them, but only as much as other themes in cinema inspire each other; the story itself is very original.
Sound and visual
The sound of the movie is good. With a great music score on the background that sets up for key moments. It definitely is not a score that I would listen to in my spare time but it does add well to the movie. Also the sound of the weapons and the bullet impacts sound real and convincing. The visuals are overall very good. Most looks realistic and and the city where the movie takes place really looks like a war torn place. There are some parts that don’t look that convincing in CGI but those are only small infractions to an otherwise great visual spectacle.
Conclusion
The movie knows what it is and does what it needs to do. It is a solid movie with some great action and a decent story. Don’t expect anything groundbreaking but go in it as a nice sunday afternoon movie flick.
