Hello movie marauders!! In this week's movie news: a new photo of Luke Skywalker (via Mark Hamill) has been released, a photo of The Wasp from Ant Man & The Wasp (aka Ant Man 2) via Evangeline Lilly, and news that a Joker and Harley Quinn movie (Jared Leto & Margot Robbie will reprise their roles) will be made. Wow, I know it's a lot to take in, so let's break it down!!
Dark Side Luke Skywalker?
So as we all know (I hope) The Last Jedi is coming out this December (yes, yes, and yes!!). Now we are not sure who The Last Jedi is/are, and we don't know what Luke meant in the teaser trailer about how "The Jedi must come to an end." So all in all we don't know anything at all. Well, a new piece of this puzzle has just arrived, but has raised even more questions. Luke is dressed in all black robes, and looks a little scary. Yes, just because he is wearing black robes doesn't mean he is on the Dark side. But, Anakin always wore black robes in the prequels, and Luke does have some darkness inside of him.
This photo shows a completely different Jedi Master than we already know. Mark Hamill has said that Luke is very different from when we last saw him (The Force Awakens doesn't really count because he just stood there) in Episode VI-Return Of The Jedi. I am just hoping that Luke doesn't turn to the Dark side because he is like a new Obi-Wan (since he trained a Jedi that turns evil: Obi-Wan->Anakin Skywalker/Luke->Ben Solo). A Dark side Luke would just ruin the ending to the Original Trilogy-where Luke decides to be good.
The Wasp Photo From Ant Man & The Wasp!!
Ant Man & The Wasp, the 2nd Ant Man film, will release July 6, 2018. The new photo shows The Wasp (aka Hope Pym), but in a different costume than what we saw at the end of Ant Man 1. This darker costume resembles the outfit Nadia Pym (Hope's mother) wears in the comics.
I personally really liked the yellow costume (it had really cool wings), but the new one isn't terrible. I think the yellow outfit stood out more, though. Evangeline Lilly posted this picture on Twitter, which got me really excited for the movie. I wasn't super into the first Ant Man movie, which wasn't bad. I liked Ant Man better in Captain America: Civil War. I feel more excited for the sequel because it also features The Wasp.
Joker & Harley Quinn Spin-Off Movie
If any of you follow me and/or saw my post about The Joker Origin Movie that is a totally separate film. The Joker origin movie is not part of the DCEU and will not feature Jared Leto. The Joker & Harley Quinn movie is about their crazy and criminal love story, and will be released after Suicide Squad 2 (Hopefully Suicide Squad 2 turns out to be good). Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (directors/writers of Crazy, Stupid, Love & exec. producers of NBC's This Is Us) will be directing The Joker & Harley Quinn film (Pretty fitting).
I am excited for this movie just because I want to see more of Harley Quinn and more of her backstory with The Joker. Not enough Harley Quinn? Gotham City Sirens, which will be directed by David Ayer (dir. of Suicide Squad), is being made. This movie will feature Harley Quinn (played by Margot Robbie), Catwoman, and Posion Ivy. Full disclosure: I am more excited for Gotham City Sirens than this Joker & Harley Quinn spin-off movie.
