MSP Waves is committed to adhering to Intellectual Property/copyright laws of the US. This agreement is to ensure all MSP Waves DJs understand their responsibilities while broadcasting on the station.
Our Music License
MSP Waves is licensed to play a selection of royalty music on air and rebroadcast transmissions.
We are not licensed to publish recordings of that licensed music exceeding 30 seconds for any given song on any publicly available medium that allows replay on demand (play/pause/rewind/repeat).
Soundexchange Database - Mandatory Check
Our music rights are licensed through Soundexchange, which contains a database of songs we can play. Every DJ is obligated to check this database first before airing a performance.

Spotify Check
It is also safe to check with Spotify, as every Spotify track has an ISRC number. ISRCs are for music what an ISBN is for reading materials.
If you are using any music source other than Spotify, Youtube for example, you MUST CHECK if your version of that song is licensed through Soundexchange, with matching Artist/Track Title/Release (album). If it is not listed, you must NOT play that version of the song on air.
Exception - Artist's Agreement
In such case where a performance is not listed as commercially available, the song may be played with the owner's permission. The owner may be the artist, but this cannot be assumed. You must confirm they own the song/s, and get express written consent for the track to be played live on MSP Waves.
Permanent Broadcast Suspension
Failure to follow these guidelines will result in the DJ being pulled off the air permanently.
We realize that this may be a drastic measure. It would, however, be even more drastic to have no broadcast, because MSP Waves would not be allowed to play any royalty music.
Music is a big part of the entertainment MSP Waves offers to its listeners. Please respect the legal position of the owner and operators and respect our ever growing listenership by adhering to the music industries' rules.

When it comes to written consent
It is good that you pointed out that the author may not be the owner of the copyright to the song.
But when it comes to the written consent, what are the formal / format requirements... ?
For example, I asked a label owner to play a certain author he holds copyrights to, and he said, "I'm totally fine with you playing Gamble 202" would that do? Thanks

An email from the verified owner will suffice, as will any communication that 1) can verify the identity of the owner, and 2) cannot be deleted after agreeing. Discord direct messages can be deleted, so this is not advisable. For example, if it is a steemit musician, have them put their consent on the blockchain.
I have started a request room in my server fr music from the community. I have a pinned message at the top stating the submitter must have the rights to do so. I have also found that not every song on spotify can be found in IRSC.
