Better infrastructure or sporting events and celebrities?

in #mumbailast month (edited)

This morning, I watched a news clip about the rains in Mumbai and how the entire city has been flooded. The reporter was talking about how the rains had affected even the posh area where movie actors lived. What the reporter and generally everyone forgets is that nature does not differentiate between a celebrity and a common man.

People spend crores of money on big sporting events like the IPL cricket, etc, but forget that the city needs better infrastructure and means to deal with such flash floods and sudden rainfall.

It also means a clean city, spotless roads, green areas, proper drainage, proper waste disposal plants, and the absence of slums. Will that ever be possible in cities like Mumbai? The governing bodies cannot be blamed alone. The people, too, have to take part in cleaning and doing their bit, too.

Some years back, I read an article by an alumnus of IIT Bombay who said that sick students were given a red, water-like medicine for any sort of illness. He said that he was glad to make it out alive. This is the premium institution in the country that he was talking about. I wonder why they did not employ a proper medical staff to take care of the hostelers who spend lakhs in tuition and then as fees to study there. ( Edit - the college website does claim to provide high-end facilities which include even an operating theater and such, and various departments of medicine, including dental)

You must be wondering that if this is the case in Mumbai, then what about the rest of the country, but the reality is different when it. comes to many other states where there are world-class health care facilities like the super specialty hospitals in Puttaparthy and Bangalore, and other such hospitals. People often believe that government-run clinics are not good at all, but a clinic in Kerala has been consistently winning awards for being the best in the whole country, and people from even far away visit it to consult the doctors. I have also seen foreigners who visit our state as medical tourists. So, it is all dependent on how the state and the people together make it a better place. It is not about flaunting the celebrities alone. It is also about taking care of the citizens. Kerala has been given a bad name by many, but please look deep inside and decide for yourself after visiting, and not just read the clickbait alone.

Disclaimer - I am not politically inclined. So, please do not read the above in that context.

Yes, nature does not differentiate between people, the flood is just too much, it has stop, so that the road will be okay, and as well as people continue their activities.
