Democratic leadership style is one in which the team members take a participative role in the whole decision making process. All members of the team are given equal opportunity to speak out their views about the vision and strategies to take for making the vision a reality. There is redistribution of power as well as well as authority. This way, there is a flow of ideas and creative solutions can be decided upon. The leader of the team will be present to provide control over the general discussion so that the discussion does not get out of control and the whole team is still on topic.

With democratic leadership style, the tension between team members and leader is reduced. There is a reduction in the fear of denial and so a friendlier work environment is created. As a result, the gap in communication is reduced.
More ideas will be generated as a result of democratic leadership style. When multiple people are involved in the decision making process, creative ideas can be generated and as a result, great benefits can be reaped. Each individual has unique characteristics that will allow for unique ideas to be brought to the table.

There is satisfaction coming out of the work done. Because everyone is involved in the decision making, team members feel part of the bigger picture and so are satisfied with the work they do.

Since every team member is involved in the decision making process, the decision making process might be take too long if the team leader does not maintain control on the discussions. As a result, the team can go off topic and this will damage the achievement of the vision.

This leadership style assumes that every team member has interest in the organization and that the individual objectives of the team members are fused with the goals of the organization. However, this may not always be true.
