Throughout history different individuals have inspired groups of people toward an objective. These individuals have stood out because of their ability to get other people to see their vision. These individuals all had one thing in common. They were great leaders. Many famous individuals who are known as great leaders include: Steve Jobs, Martin Luther King and Gandhi. Figure 1 shows leaders Steve Jobs, Martin Luther King and Gandhi.
Leadership is a skill. It is developed through research, education as well as experience. Individuals use leadership to create a vision, inspire others towards the vision and manage the efforts towards making the vision a reality. Leadership takes time to develop and strengthen like any other skill and the length of time taken to develop it is really uncertain.
Different forms of leadership skills have come into existence over time and each form has its own characteristics. Each form is well suited for different situations. These forms are different in nature but have some similarities. Each type of leadership has some advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantages limit the potential of each leadership style. Individuals should use a combination of the leadership styles. This way, the individuals can be prepared for almost every possible situation and overcome any uncertainty.
